Dr. Sam Galphin:
Dr. Galphin was raised in Holly Hill, SC on a beef cattle and row crop farm. His father was a large animal veterinarian and his mother taught school. He was active in all aspects of the farm and helped in the veterinary practice. He continues to manage this farm, as well as two others.
After high school he attended Clemson University and earned a B.S. degree. He attended veterinary school at the University of Georgia and graduated in 1975 with a D.V.M. degree. Following vet school he served in the U.S. Air Force veterinary corps as a communicable disease control officer until 1977. After the Air Force he pursued a degree in nutrition and dairy management at Mississippi State University and graduated in 1980 with a M.S.
From 1977 through 1981 he was an assistant professor at the Miss. State University College of Veterinary Medicine where he rose to Director of the Economic and Performance Medicine Department, specializing in food animal production medicine. He has served and is still serving as an adjunct professor at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
In 1981 he left Mississippi for North Carolina to be a partner in a large multi-man private practice in Apex, NC. For forty years, performing cattle work exclusively in three states and several foreign countries, he performed embryo transfers, collected and froze bull semen and embryos, operated a dairy equipment business and did reproductive work, nutrition work, herd health work and emergencies. His first non-surgical embryo pregnancy was registered in 1977. He essentially grew up with the ET industry. He has been a member of the American Embryo Transfer Association and the International Embryo Transfer Society since their founding. He has been an AETA Certified Practitioner since the program started. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association for forty-four years. Over the years, he helped grow Apex Veterinary Hospital to include four other practices and also owned and helped manage five restaurants with his practice partners.
He owned and operated two dairies simultaneously with a partner between 1984 and 1992. Later he owned and operated two additional dairies from 2010 to 2015. At these various farms he performed embryo transfers to improve genetics and bred three bulls in the top 100 in the world. He was fortunate to breed and sell many bulls and good cows carrying his farm prefixes. All together, he owned and managed over a thousand cattle for several years.
Today, he is a solo private food supply veterinarian, nutritionist, and consultant. He has worked and served in many states and several other countries. He consults with several international companies and groups that support the food supply industry.
He is closely associated with three world religious and/or development organizations. He has led or participated in over twenty trips for these agencies, providing service opportunities for two-hundred plus participants. His hope is to instill in others a “heart for service”.
Dr. Galphin’s passions are his faith-based activities, his family, his clients, feeding the world in the future, his profession, and his farms. Annually, he tries to publish a scientific paper, perform some type of Christian mission work (at least 10% of his time) and participate in veterinary education in order to return something to the world. His goal is to improve the human condition so that people will be receptive to the message of God’s love.
Dr. Jimmy Horner:
Dr. Horner has served as President/CEO/Founder of Protocol Technologies, Inc. since it's inception in 1994. Dr. Horner is also currently serving as President & CEO of Protocol Naturals, Inc. and Horner Industries, Inc. Each corporation encompasses a separate and very specific role from manufacturing to sales and marketing as well as product R&D, all-natural animal nutrition consulting and bio-technology based solutions for livestock producers worldwide. Dr. Horner serves as a consultant for nutrition and husbandry to top beef and dairy operations throughout the US and internationally.
He has assisted some of the top Wagyu and dairy producers in Japan for the past twenty-four years. In addition to serving as the staff nutritionist for Bowman Farms, Dr. Horner also serves as a nutrition consultant to a select group of top U.S., Canadian and South American Wagyu operations. He is a regular contributing author to Wagyu World magazine. Dr. Horner received his Ph.D. in Ruminant Nutrition from Texas A&M University. He has authored and co-authored over ninety scientific and industry manuscripts and has been a speaker and lecturer at animal nutrition seminars, conferences, short courses and national breed association conventions worldwide.
Dr. Horner is certified as a Professional Animal Scientist and is a charter member of the Diplomate of the American College of Animal Nutrition. Dr. Horner currently resides in Decatur, Texas.
